SIBUR offsets carbon footprint of International Transport and Logistics Forum

The International Transport and Logistics Forum (ITLF), which the Government of the Russian Federation and Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation organized with the support of the Roscongress Foundation, will have carbon-neutral status. Russian petrochemical giant SIBUR will contribute the verified carbon units required to offset the footprint of this major industry event.

Forum participants have specifically emphasized the importance of carbon neutrality. As the transport sector and cargo flows continue to rapidly grow, the issue of mitigating climate impact is taking centre stage.

SIBUR and the Roscongress Foundation share a long-standing partnership in this regard. In 2025 alone, the company contributed carbon units to offset the footprint of such events as the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Nevsky International Ecological Congress, and the Island of Sustainable Development Forum on Sakhalin.

“The Roscongress Foundation sets a high standard for environmental responsibility and shows that even at major industry events, you can combine business efficiency with a commitment to climate care. It is of paramount importance to us that the International Transport and Logistics Forum, which brought together over 5,000 professionals from 80 countries, has achieved carbon-neutral status this time. I would also like to note that SIBUR is a responsible and long-standing partner of the Roscongress Foundation in sustainable development and organizing international carbon-neutral events,” Roscongress Foundation First Deputy CEO and Director of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) Igor Pavlov said.

“For SIBUR, collaboration with the Roscongress Foundation is an example of a truly systemic approach to sustainable development. Together, we have progressed from one-off initiatives to a comprehensive portfolio of carbon-neutral events. Each project of this kind confirms that Russian businesses and development institutions are capable of building long-term partnerships founded on high-quality climate solutions and mutual trust. We take pride in the fact that we have remained a reliable partner to the Roscongress Foundation in advancing this critical agenda for many years,” SIBUR Sustainable Development Director Nadezhda Galaktionova said.

The carbon credits used to offset the Forum’s carbon footprint were generated as part of an international climate project at SIBUR’s ZapSibNeftekhim facility. The international firm TÜV AUSTRIA (represented in Russia as TÜV AUSTRIA Standards and Compliance) will verify the calculations of the event’s carbon footprint.

To date, SIBUR has already concluded over 40 transactions enabling buyers and partners to reduce or fully offset the carbon footprint associated with their operations, products, or events. The company’s portfolio includes 12 climate projects that have already been completed and have reduced cumulative greenhouse gas emissions by over 12 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent over a 10-year period. More than 5.4 million of SIBUR’s carbon credits have already been verified and are available to both domestic and international buyers.

The ITLF’s carbon footprint will be offset through the Roscongress Foundation’s ‘Thread of Nature’ digital platform, which facilitates transactions involving carbon units and quota compliance units, thereby contributing to the development of low-carbon economy infrastructure in Russia.

The ITLF was held in accordance with directives from President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin about enhancing the global competitiveness of Russia’s transport corridors, including the implementation of decrees that align with the country’s national goals through both 2030 and 2036.

The Forum was organized by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation and managed by the Roscongress Foundation.
