The tour introduces visitors to the building of the Rosphoto State Museum and Exhibition Centre, as well as the permanent exhibition ‘Inside an Antique Camera’.

The museum building is a prominent example of Northern Art Nouveau architecture. Its design features majolica compositions based on sketches by Nicholas Roerich. The interiors are adorned with a relief frieze depicting themes of the Russian North, colourful Tiffany-style stained glass, and a stylistically diverse array of ceramic stoves and tiled fireplaces dating back to the early 20th century.

The permanent exhibition ‘Inside an Antique Camera’ provides a fascinating introduction to the technical aspects of photography. It showcases early optical inventions, such as the camera obscura, along with rare vintage cameras from the museum’s collection. The centrepiece of the exhibition is an installation that lets visitors step inside an antique camera and use modern digital technology to create their own portraits in styles that simulate daguerreotypes and albumen prints.
Present your badge at the museum ticket office for a free ticket, then proceed to the second floor, where the group will meet in the bookstore.
