The State Museum of the History of Religion is the only museum in Russia – and one of only a handful of museums in the world – that tells the story of the origin and development of religion. The museum’s collection contains more than 200,000 exhibits, the oldest dating back more than 200 million years. These are historical and cultural monuments from various countries, eras, and peoples: from the Archaic period, ancient Egypt and Israel to the early European Middle Ages; from Ancient Greece and Rome to modern times. Visitors can explore exhibits covering three world religions: Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam, as well as Judaism and the national religions of India, China, and Japan.
Forum participants will be able to visit both the museum’s permanent exhibition and its temporary exhibits.
Several temporary exhibitions will be open during the Forum: “The Red Horse”, “Hoffmann: Between Light and Shadow”, “A Place where the Gods are not Crowded”, “The Fate of the Emperor. On the Occasion of the 145th Anniversary of Alexander II”, “The Abduction of Europe”, and “Osor Budaev: Lama, Artist, Collector (Celebrating the 110th Anniversary of the Establishment of the St. Petersburg Datsan”). Entrance tickets are required for admission to these exhibits.
Forum participants can collect free tickets at the box office upon presentation of their event badge.
