The “Gorokhovaya 2 Department. History of the Political Police and State Security Agencies of Russia from the 19th to the 20th Centuries” of the State Museum of Political History of Russia is situated in a late-18th century mansion built by the architect Giacomo Quarenghi for the president of the medical college, Baron Ivan Fitinghoff. The building was sold to the State Treasury in 1804, becoming the Provincial Government Chambers soon after. Future Decembrists Ivan Pushchin and Kondraty Ryleyev worked as judges in the judicial chamber.
A free ticket can be obtained by presenting your participant badge to the museum ticket office. Use your badge to visit the museum independent of a guided tour.
