Autonomous shipping is becoming increasingly popular in maritime transport. Small experimental designs are being replaced by full-fledged commercial vessels that transport cargo remotely. The number of such vessels will only increase in the near future. There are a number of measures that could create favourable conditions for the rapid and effective development of autonomous shipping in Russia that ensures high standards of safety, environmental sustainability, and economic benefits. What changes in transport education will help to improve the training system for autonomous shipping? What are some of the key achievements in autonomous shipping to date in Russia and BRICS countries? What regulatory and legislative changes are essential for the operation of autonomous ships? What changes are needed in port infrastructure to expand the use of autonomous ships?
